We had known each other for several months so when the relationship started it developed very fast. My own spiritual background is raised Roman Catholic, including spending time as an alter boy. I soon lost touch with the church when my teenage years hit and I left school. I returned to religion in my 20s, spending some time reading the bible, attending the Alpha course and generally seeking spiritual fulfilment.
Ultamitely this led me to becoming an Atheist, initially quite strident a la Dawkins et al.

How Far is Too Far? This is dangerous territory; not to be taken lightly. My experience is that at least some of the people asking this question are seeking permission. There are two areas I want to discuss here. You need clear physical boundaries which you will not cross until you are married. Although there is some flexibility with some of them, for the most part these should be non-negotiable.
Suffice to say that anything beyond kissing above the neck should be a non-negotiable. Extended kissing on the lips, neck or ears gets most people jazzed up, so I recommend staying away from it. What does this leave you with? To avoid temptation and the possibility of crossing those boundaries, you need to set some other boundaries related to your interactions with each other.

Christian Living It isn’t that popular Christian conceptions of dating boundaries are too big, but that their scope is too small. We ask physical and quantitative questions: But a truly Christian conception of boundaries in dating will not only draw physical boundaries as if dating was merely a relationship between two Christian bodies. It will draw boundaries that reflect the full personhood of each individual by showing concern for every aspect of each individual—personal, emotional, moral, and sexual, to name only a few of those many interrelated aspects.

It seems to be the exception rather than the norm. Anyway, this might seem like a strange question but what is considered appropriate as far as kissing goes? You have hit on a very sensitive subject that is very close to my heart, and that I have a strong opinion about; namely, the subject of kissing. There are no cut and dry answers to this question. When it comes to kissing or other forms of physical touch before marriage, the opinions about the when and how you do it will vary greatly, depending on who you talk to.
As to how kissing is connected to maintaining virginity, that will also vary in opinion a great deal. How we conduct ourselves is a reflection of our interior life. Therefore, the way we speak, the way we dress, the way we behave, etc. Kissing is not just something we do.

I have color-coded the seven family groups mentioned below to differentiate the direct and indirect relationships they bear to one another. The Duggar Family practice a “no kissing before marriage” rule for their adult children, as a way to keep their courtships “focused on God and away from sexual temptation”. Looking back, the first time I ever heard of this concept was actually during one of my classes in Christian college.
To Kiss or Not to Kiss Where to draw the line in a premarital relationship. Last time I appeared on this site, I said that I would lay out my position on biblical dating and then turn it over to all of you to determine the rest of the column’s topics by your questions. You have not disappointed. As many of you will know from the Boundless blog, The Line, the last piece generated many posts and comments, from the challenging to the supportive, the general to the specific.
In addition to what all of you saw on the blog, I have received dozens of questions and comments in e-mails, which I and the folks at Boundless have culled through to see what the most pressing questions seem to be. Judging from both frequency and “passion,” the most pressing questions arising from the last piece involve physical involvement — which I’m about to cover, initiation of relationships especially the bit about involving the woman’s father , and the practical details of how one of these relationships works.
All of these topics will, Lord willing, be covered in future columns. It’s simply impossible for me to address all of the fantastic individual questions and comments we’ve received, but know that we will do our very best to incorporate as many as possible into the columns themselves and the blog discussions that follow. On to our topic for this column.
